Paddled by Kololo paddlers in a dugout canoe, on 16th of November, 1855, Dr Livingstone set his eyes on the falls and was hit by a shower curtain from this Island then known as Goats Island and now known as the Livingstone Island. At low water seasons, 4 scheduled tour visits to the Livingstone Island are made in a day. A guided tour of the Island is conducted and those from the wild side are allowed to swim in the Devil’s pool, if they so wish. The Devil’s Pool is – a natural dug out pool right at the edge of the falls where thousand litres of water gash down and fall into the abyss.
Visits to the Livingstone Island home of the Devil’s Pool comes at different morning slots. 07:30, 09:30, and 10:30 hours, which are morning Breezers then 12:30 hours lunch and finally, afternoon – High Tea 15:00 hours. Clients are picked from Royal Livingstone 5 Star Hotel Sun deck and transferred by engine powered boat to the Livingstone Island at the edge of the Victoria Falls.
Depending on time of the day, respective meals or snacks are served. Transfers to and from the Island are done using engine powered boats though during dry seasons clients could walk over to the Island in the company of Island Guides.
